HIRSCHMAN AND SESELY WIN WALL MODIFIED TURKEY DERBY RACES

WALL TOWNSHIP, N.J. ~ Matt Hirschman of Northampton, Pa. and Anthony Sesely of Matawan were Modified stock car winners during the 40th annual Turkey Derby racing events at Wall Stadium. It was the second straight Tour Modified win for Hirschman while Sesely won his first ever Wall/SK Modified Turkey Derby race after finishing second in recent years.

In Saturday’s Tour Modified 150-lap race Danny Bohn of Mooresville, N.C. jumped to the lead at the outset and held this ground through several restarts while being pressured by Hirschman and several others. Hirschman pitted for tires and fuel with other competitors on lap 81 and then began his climb through the field from the rear.

Bohn finally pitted for his tires and fuel on lap 118 as Hirschman was completing his run to the front. Holding off challenges Hirschman then raced on to victory followed by Doug Cody, Rowan Pennink, Ryan Preece and Michael Bohn. Danny Bohn finished seventh behind Jamie Tomaino.

“It’s real tough to give up that track position when you have to get tires and fuel,” Hirschman said. “It’s real tough to be patient when you are trying to come back through the pack. It took a lot of patience and a great car and crew to win this race today.”

Sesely jumped to the lead in the Wall/SK Modified 100-lapper early but had lots of pressure all the way. Freehold’s Steven Read and Howell’s Jimmy Blewett swapped the top spot with Sesely in the mid portion of the race. Late in the event this battled erupted in the fourth turn with lots of contact and Blewett, Read and several others tangling as a result.

Sesely made it through the chaos and then raced on to the win. Hirschman, Zack Alspach of Willingboro, Howell’s Chris Lane and Michael Zervais wrapped up the top five finishers.

“You had three guys racing on the edge who all wanted this win,” Sesely said of the fourth turn tangle. “I feel bad that it happened but it was just good hard racing. There isn’t a lot of room out there when you’re going as fact as we are.”

In other Saturday action Joey Payne raced to victory in the 40 lap main event for the Dirt Modifieds after Andrew Krause of Holmdel led the early going before dropping from the race on lap 32. Rick Ross, Jr., Rick Yetter, Jack Ely, Jr. and Chuck Bates wrapped up the top five.

Ken Matlach of Levittown, N.Y. won Saturday’s 50-lapper for the Limited Late Models. Early leader Wayne Courey was the runner-up with Chris Turbush, Anthony Crimaldi and Dan Turbush completing the top five. Saturday’s TQ Midget main event was won by Earl Paules over Andy Jankowiak, Buddy Sloed, Matt Roselli and Mike Tidaback.

During Friday’s day one of Turkey Derby racing Kevin Davison of Howell raced to victory in the Sportsman 50-lap main event. Holmdel’s Andrew Krause, Zack Alspach, Dom Fattaruso of Brick and Kenny Van Wickle of Manasquan wrapped up the top five. In Friday legend Cars 40-lap action Tim Solomito of Riverhead, N.Y. posted the victory over Nick Ladyga, Robert French, Artie Pedersen and Kevin Nowak.

The Factory Stocks raced on both Friday and Sunday of Turkey Derby weekend. On Friday Joey Helberg of Union won the 50-lap main event over Scott Riggleman of Manchester, Dan Birdsall, Marty Van Druten of Toms River and Shanon Mongeau. In Sunday’s 50-lapper Brick’s Ronnie Mullen took down the win over Steve West of Howell, John Bowers of Pt. Pleasant, Riggleman and Rob McCormick.

James Meyers of Port Monmouth won Friday’s 4 Cylinder 50-lapper while Pete Zaharias, Todd Pilla, Rick Massaro and Mike Wahl completed the top five.  On Sunday Shanon Mongeau was tops in the 4 Cylinder 50-lapper while Cole Ormsbee, Zack Thomas, Al Morales and Jeff Dumbrowski completed the top five.

Cheryl Vreeland won Sunday’s Ladies’ Race.

With the 40th running of the Turkey Derby now history, all attention is turning towards the 2014 racing season. The racing schedule, which will begin Saturday night racing in the spring, will be announced soon.

SESELY WINS WALL MODIFIED SPECTACULAR SATURDAY

WALL TOWNSHIP, N.J. ~ After taking the majority of the 2013 auto racing season off to pursue other interests two-time track driving champion Anthony Sesely posted an impressive comeback by winning the 75-lap Modified stock car “Spooky Spectacular” race at Wall Stadium on Saturday. It was the Matawan resident’s first stock car win of the year.

Sesely chased pole sitter John McCormack of Farmingdale for the first 12 laps before powering to the lead on the inside lane of the third and fourth turns. Modified rookie Eric Mauriello of Howell followed him through the race-long battle for the lead was set.

Sesely then went on to survive several restart attacks by Mauriello as another Modified rookie, Derek Hopkinson of Toms River, chipped his way to the front before arriving in third near the halfway mark. The lead battle was then a three car fight to the finish. In fact, Hopkinson was able to slip past Mauriello for the runner-up spot on the event’s final restart with just two laps remaining. Another Modified rookie, Trevor Alspach of Willingboro, was fourth and New York state resident Tony Hanbury was fifth.

“I must be out of shape,” Sesely said after the event. “This race took a lot more time than the Sprint Car and Midget races I’ve been running this year. Those guys behind me were real fast and real good on the restarts. I’ll be working on the restarts before Turkey Derby. We want to win that race.”

After nearly destroying his racer during the late September regular season finale Manasquan’s Kenny Van Wickle made the hard work of his crew pay off by winning the 50-lap Sportsman feature race. Van Wickle held off Willingboro’s Trevor Alspach early before Andrew Krause of Holmdel challenged late in the race. Zack Alspach of Willingboro, Scott Branick of Brick and Howell’s Jason Caruso completed the top five.

Howell’s Robert French made his fifth Legend Cars win of the year a big one by taking top honors in the 30-lap “Malcolm Campbell Sr. Memorial.” French fought with Kevin Nowak early before Aidan Landauer moved into second late in the race. Trevor Alspach, Nowak and Rich Davidowitz wrapped up the top five.

Ken Matlach of New Hyde Park, N.Y. led nearly the entire 30-lap distance to win the Limited Late Model feature race. Long Islanders Chris Turbush and Corey Midgett were second and third, while Jack Sayegh of South Toms River and Howell’s Glen Conk were fourth and fifth.

Brick’s Joe Mongeau won the rain shortened Factory Stock feature that was stopped after 18 of the scheduled 30-laps. The winner’s nephew, Shannon Mongeau of Farmingdale, was second and Manchester’s Scott Riggleman was third. Rich Mongeau and Brick’s Ronnie Mullen were fourth and fifth.

The 30-lap 4 Cylinder feature race was postponed by rain.

All attention now turns to the 40th running of the season ending “Turkey Derby” stock car classic. Held on Friday, Saturday and Sunday of Thanksgiving weekend the event is presented during the daylight hours.

Wall Stadium presents professional motorsports events on most Saturdays and Sundays during the summer months and special races in October and November. ADAM LACICERO WINS RACE, OKERSON TAKES MODIFIED TITLE AT

WALL SATURDAY

WALL TOWNSHIP, N.J. ~ After a frustrating 2013 season Adam LaCicero of Lavallette turned his year around by winning the 40-lap Modified stock car main event during Downs Ford Champions Night at Wall Stadium Saturday. By virtue of a sixth place finish Chas Okerson claimed the 2013 Modified Driving title. It was the Freehold veteran’s third Modified title in five years (2009, 2010 and 2013). Okerson has also enjoyed six championships in the Pro Stock division (2001 – 2006).

In Saturday night’s race LaCicero jumped to the lead early and with numerous skirmishes on the speedway behind him that was the safest place to be. In sharp contrast to the trouble he encountered through most of the campaign LaCicero stayed in front of the problems to take the win. Okerson on the other hand was involved in a first lap pile-up that forced him to the pit area for repairs. He then raced well within the top ten to nail down the title.

Rounding out the top five behind LaCicero were Zack Alspach of Willingboro, title contender Andrew Krause of Holmdel, Derek Hopkinson of Toms River and Jackson’s Jason Treat. Howell’s Eric Mauriello, who entered the race as Okerson’s biggest title threat, left the race with a sour motor on lap 22 and was credited with 13th.

“This makes the season feel better,” LaCicero, a Lavallette police officer, said of the race win. “I have to thank my wife, my father and everyone who has been helping with the car for this. It’s been a rough season.”

“I’m just glad this race is over,” Okerson said. “It was real wild out there tonight and it seemed that I was in the middle of a lot of trouble. It’s a long season and my dad, my wife and the crew stick with it all the way. You don’t win a title on your own.”

Kevin Davison of Howell won his 2nd main event of the year in the 30-lapper for the Sportsman cars. Colts Neck’s Kevin Eyres crossed the finish line fourth and that was enough to claim his fifth Sportsman crown (2007, 2009 – 2011, 2013). Trevor Alspach of Willingboro and Ken Matlach of Levittown, N.Y. were second and third while Marc Nappi of Howell was fifth.

In one of the closest point races of the year Brick’s Ronnie Mullen used a sixth place finish on the final point night to win the Factory Stock title by just one finishing position. Manchester’s Scott Riggleman did everything he could to steal away the title by winning the race but was forced to settle for second. Steve Michel of Egg Harbor Township, Jerry Koenig, Dan Birdsall of Howell and Union’s Joey Helberg completed the top five.

Another tight point race saw Mike Wahl of East Islip, N.Y. win the 4 Cylinder driving title by finishing fourth in the final point race. Jerry Stanzione of Keansburg won the 25-lap test over James Meyers of Port Monmouth and Wall’s Cole Ormsbee. Randy Hart of Brick was fifth.

Robert French of Howell won the 25-lapper for the Legend Cars but a second place finish for Willingboro’s Trevor Alspach was more than enough for him to claim his second crown. Zack Alspach of Willingboro was third, while Jim Davison of Bridgeville, De. and Middletown’s Joe McGrath wrapped up the top five.

Brian Doyle of Coram, N.Y. only needed to start the 25-lapper for the Limited Late Model cars to win the crown, but he raced to a convincing main event to nail down his first ever Wall Stadium title. Ken Matlach of Levittown, N.Y., Howell’s Elliott Wohl, Bill Vanderveen of Beachwood and Bayville’s Mike Tillett were second through fifth.

Although the Saturday night regular season has ended, plenty of fall action remains on the schedule. During the day on October 12 the fifth mile “inner oval” will be in the spotlight with the lucrative “War at the Shore” presented by Hamer Heating, Cooling and Refrigeration. On October 19 the stock cars will return for the annual “Spooky Spectacular” at 2:00 p.m. before the season ends on Friday, Saturday and Sunday of Thanksgiving weekend during the daylight hours with the 40th annual “Turkey Derby.”

Wall Stadium presents professional motorsports events on most Saturdays and Sundays during the summer months and special races in October and November. OKERSON SURPRISE WALL MODIFIED WINNER SATURDAY

WALL TOWNSHIP, N.J. ~ After racing in contention for most of the 40-lap distance Saturday night, current point leader Chas Okerson was awarded the Modified main event victory at Wall Stadium when apparent winner Jonathan Mandato of Toms River lost his victory to due a post-race tech inspection problem. The win was Okerson’s second of the year and moved him one step closer to his third Modified title. Championships in all division will be decided this Saturday (Sept. 28) at 7:00 p.m.

Young Derek Hopkinson of Toms River led early and was soon challenged by Holmdel’s Andrew Krause and Mandato as Okerson lurked in fourth. After a tight battle between the top two for the lead Hopkinson spun in the second turn and Krause was sent to the rear of the field for what officials felt was his contribution to the miscue.

This turn of events sent Modified rookie Mandato to the lead with Okerson on his bumper. The duo raced nose-to-tail to the finish line before Mandato’s win was overturned.

Following Okerson to his 13th career Modified win was Shaun Carrig of Little Falls, Howell’s Eric Mauriello, Jason Treat of Jackson and Krause.

Trevor Alspach of Willingboro raced into the lead on the sixth lap and then fought off Krause through the final 20 circuits to win the companion 30-lapper for the Sportsman cars. Point leader and former champion Kevin Eyres of Colts Neck, Brick’s Robert Sutphin and Kevin Davison of Howell wrapped up the top five.

John Bowers of Pt. Pleasant raced into the lead with just two laps remaining in the Factory Stock 25-lapper, but a post-race technical inspection problem handed the win to Union’s Joey Helberg in the final rundown. Point leader Ronnie Mullen of Brick was advanced to second over title contender Scott Riggleman of Manchester. Lee Allen of Old Bridge and Marty Van Druten of Toms River were fourth and fifth.

Third generation driver Cole Ormsbee of Wall grabbed his first ever win in the 25-lapper for the 4 Cylinder cars taking the lead for good on the second lap. James Meyers of Port Monmouth was second, while Beachwood’s Todd Pilla, Wall’s Brien Crosby and Al Morales completed the top five.

Brian Doyle of Coram, N.Y. grabbed his fifth Limited Late Model win of the campaign and inched closer to his first driving crown here. Anthony Crimaldi of Port Monmouth, Jackson’s Howie Conk, Beachwood’s Bill Vanderveen and Jack Sayegh of South Toms River wrapped up the top five.

Ryan Tidman of Levittown, Pa. won the 25-lapper for the touring TQ Midgets after a strong battle with Joey Bailey of Helmetta. Emily Krause of Holmdel won a special 15-lap Ladies’ Race over Stephanie Romanoskie and Nancy Hills.

This Saturday night (Sept. 28) on “Downs Ford Motorsports Night”, which offers double points in all divisions, driving championships will be decided in all classes. The Modified stock cars will headline in a 40-lap main event. Also on the speedway the Sportsman cars, Factory Stocks, Limited Late Models, 4 Cylinders and the Legend Cars are also set for action. Qualifying is slated for 6 p.m. and main event action is set for 7:00 p.m. Grandstand seating opens at 5 p.m.

The “Sunday Series” then returns to action at noon on Sunday with racing on the fifth-mile “Inner Oval.”

HISTORY MADE! SHAWNA INGRAHAM 1ST FEMALE MODIFIED WINNER IN 63 YEARS AT WALL STADIUM

WALL TOWNSHIP, N.J. ~ Shawna Ingraham became the first ever female driver to win a Modified stock car main event in Wall Stadium’s 63 year history Saturday night. The Brick teenager had no easy drive of it as she was forced to hold off Howell’s Jimmy Blewett, who had been undefeated in every race he entered here this season, on at least five consecutive restarts.

In a race that was marred with cautions Ingraham used her third starting spot to rocket to the front quickly. After grabbing second from Toms River’s Derek Hopkinson she immediately went after Neptune’s Ryan Cottrell. After slipping into the lead a few laps later Ingraham stretched her advantage over point leader Chas Okerson of Freehold.

All the while Blewett was charging from the rear of the field after being involved in an early skirmish. By lap 14 Blewett was the runner-up. Through the final 26 laps and a series of restarts Ingraham more than held her ground to race on to the historic win. Blewett, Frank Boardwick of Union Beach, Okerson and Howell’s Eric Mauriello wrapped up the top five.

“I’m speechless,” Ingraham said at the moment she climbed from her No. 66. “This car was the best it has ever been tonight. When I saw Jimmy (Blewett) on the restarts I knew that I had to stay in from of him. If he got by me I would never get him back.

“I have to thank my family, the Barney family, our crew and especially my grandfather for this. It is a dream come true.”

Ingraham’s grandfather was long time racing supporter Don Ling who passed away in 2012.

Zack Alspach of Willingboro won the non-stop 30-lapper for the Sportsman cars holding off point leader Kevin Eyres of Colts Neck and his brother Trevor Alspach, also of Willingboro. Manasquan’s Kenny Van Wickle and Jason Caruso of Howell were fourth and fifth.

Trevor Alspach enjoyed his ninth win of the year in the Legend Cars 25-lapper over Howell’s Robert French, his brother Zack Alspach, Joe McGrath of Middletown and Flemington’s Bobby Baltera.

Ronnie Mullen of Brick stretched his point lead by a few markers in winning the 25-lap main event for the Factory Stocks. Mullen’s closest point race competitor, Mancester’s Scott Riggleman, was second in the event.

James Meyers of Port Republic grabbed his sixth win of the year in the 25-lapper for the 4 Cylinder Cars grabbing the lead from Beachwood’s Todd Pilla in the final laps.

This Saturday night (Sept. 21) the Modified stock cars return for a 40-lap main event. Also on the speedway the Sportsman cars, Factory Stocks, Limited Late Models, 4 Cylinders and the visiting TQ Midgets are also set for action. Qualifying is slated for 6 p.m. and main event action is set for 7:00 p.m. Grandstand seating opens at 5 p.m.

KRAUSE WINS SPORTSMAN 50 AT WALL STADIUM SATURDAY

WALL TOWNSHIP, N.J. ~ Andrew Krause continued his outstanding 2013 season as he grabbed a win in the Sportsman 50-lap championship race Saturday night at Wall Stadium. It was the Holmdel resident’s fourth win of the year and season straight victory.

Ken Matlach of New Hyde Park, N.Y., making his first Sportsman start this season, was the early leader as Krause quickly climbed into contention. This battle heated up rapidly until the duo touched in the second turn on lap 15 and Matlach spun from the lead. Krause then continued on out front but the race was far from over.

Veterans Robert Sutphin of Brick and Manasquan’s Kenny Van Wickle challenged every lap before finishing second and third, while Matlach recovered for fourth and Zack Alspach of Willingboro finished fifth.

“The car was almost perfect tonight,” Krause said. “I needed it to be. It seemed everyone was fast tonight.”

Trevor Alspach of Willingboro swept a pair of 25-lap features for the Legend Cars. In the first race Trevor jumped to the lead early and never looked back. Howell’s Robert French Ron Poley of Egg harbor Township, Flemington’s bob Baltera and Joe McGrath of Middletown wrapped up the top five.

In the second Legend Cars race McGrath led early before Trevor Alspach took the lead for good on lap 11. Zack Alspach was second in this one with McGrath, French and Kyle Dealaman of Warren second through fifth.

James Meyers of Port Monmouth raced past early leader Jerry Stanzione to win the 25-lapper for the 4 Cylinder cars. Stanzione took down runner-up honors, as Mike Wahl of East Islip, N.Y., Beachwood’s Todd Pilla and Wall’s Cole Ormsbee completed the top five.

Jackson’s Glen Conk took his first ever win in thrilling fashion in the 25-lapper for the Limited Late Models. After being in contention most of the way the leaders slipped just past halfway and Conk charged into the lead. Conk then fought off Brian Doyle of Coram, N.Y. and Bayville’s Mike Tillett for glory. Michelle Moorman and Jack Sayegh of South Toms River wrapped up the top five.

REED GRABS SECOND STRAIGHT MODIFIED WIN AT WALL STADIUM SATURDAY

WALL TOWNSHIP, N.J. ~ Steven Reed raced through the pack and on to victory in the Modified stock car 40-lap main event at Wall Stadium on Saturday night. It was the Freehold resident’s second straight victory and his fourth of the season.

Neptune’s Ryan Cottrell was the first leader of the event and held off the advances of Lavallette’s Adam LaCicero in the early going. LaCicero then raced into the lead on a lap eight restart as Chris Hamilton of Oakland and Reed advanced to second and third.

As the laps wore on the top three raced in tight formation until Reed slipped into second on a lap 21 restart. The turning point in this race came just three laps later when a caution waved when Cottrell and Christian LaCicero of Lavallette tangled in turns one and two. When the yellow flag waved leader Adam LaCicero slowed immediately while the pack of cars behind him were not quite as quick to hit the brakes. As a result Adam LaCicero’s car tagged the guardrail and was out of the race.

Reed was the new leader on the restart with Hamilton chasing him to the checker flag. Shaun Carrig of Little Falls grabbed third in the closing laps while Andrew Krause of Holmdel and Howell’s Eric Mauriello were fourth and fifth.

“When that caution came out Adam slowed almost immediately and everyone behind me just kept going and pushed me into him,” Reed said. “It was a chain reaction.

“Even though we won last week, my dad keeps tinkering with the car and making it better.”

Along with his fourth place finish in the Modified race Krause enjoyed his third win of the year in the Sportsman 30-lapper. Jason Caruso of Howell and Manasquan’s Ken Van Wickle were early leaders as Krause moved toward the front. Krause’s big move came on a lap 23 restart when he charged from third and into the lead for good. Van Wickle, Zack Alspach of Willingboro, Howell’s Kevin Davison and Kevin Eyres of Colts Neck wrapped up the top five.

Scott Riggleman of Manchester jumped to the lead on lap two and went on to win a non-stop Factory Stock 25-lap feature. Steve Michel of Egg harbor City, Brick’s Ronnie Mullen, Wall’s Tiffany Olejnik and Marty Van Druten of Toms River were second through fifth.

Willingboro’s Trevor Alspach won the special 40-lap main for the Legend Cars, his fifth in a row and sixth of the season. Bob Baltera of Flemington, Ron Poley of Egg Harbor Township, Joe McGrath of Middletown and Jim Davison of Bridgeville, De. wrapped up the top five. The event was run as a tribute to long time speedway and Legend Cars supporter Malcolm Campbell, Sr. who is seriously ill. Fans and competitors donated to a collection for the Campbell family.

Mike Fox, Jr., who was a contender for almost the entire 20-lap distance, took the lead and the win in the special race for the Sunday Series Microstocks after the top two cars tangled and spun exiting the final turn.

A double header weekend is next on the agenda at Wall Stadium

This Saturday night (Sept. 7) the speedway celebrates the return to school for many with “2 Cool 4 School” festivities. On the speedway the Sportsman cars will headline in a 50-lapper, while the Limited Late Models, Legend Cars and 4 Cylinders are also set for action.

REED TAKES CLOSING LAPS MODIFIED WIN AT WALL STADIUM SATURDAY

WALL TOWNSHIP, N.J. ~ Steven Reed used the wisdom of a veteran and the power of his No. 55 racecar to win the 40-lap main event for Modified stock cars at Wall Stadium Saturday night. It was his third win of the year.

Adam LaCicero of Lavallette was the first leader of the race while
Reed and a host of others were moving into contention. When LaCicero spun from the top spot on lap 16 Jonathan Mandato of Toms River rocketed to the front while Reed held the second spot.

As the race wore on Mandato looked strong while leading but Reed was also lurking from behind. When a caution for a minor spin slowed the race with just five laps remaining Reed raced side-by-side with Mandato before diving to the inside lane to take the lead and eventual win. Mandato, Holmdel’s Andrew Krause, Brick’s Shawna Ingraham and Howell’s Eric Mauriello wrapped up the top five.   “I didn’t think I’d be able to pass him on the open track so I just slowed down a bit to save my tires,” Reed said of his win. “That final caution gave me the chance I needed to get to the front. It was fun but it wasn’t easy.”

Marty Van Druten of Toms River led the 25-lap Factory Stock feature from start to finish grabbing his first career win. Tiffany Olejnik of Wall finished second, with Joey Helberg of Union, Manchester’s Scott Riggleman and Howell’s Steve West completing the top five.

Jerry Stanzione of Keansburg raced through the field and into the lead on lap six to win the 25-lapper for the 4 Cylinder cars. James Meyers of Port Monmouth made it close at the end, while early leader Brien Crosby of Wall was third. Wall’s Cole Ormsbee and Mike Wahl of East Islip, N.Y. were fourth and fifth.

Brian Doyle of Coram, N.Y. won the 50-lap Limited Late Model feature after being chased by Toms River’s Phil Fortuna most of the way. Howell’s Glen Conk, Beachwood’s Bill Vanderveen and Jack Sayegh of South Toms River completed the top five.

Rob Ormsbee of Wall won the 30-lapper for the visiting Late Model cars over Mike Tillett of Bayville and Glenn Slocum of Atlantic Highlands.

Billy Joe Michel of Egg Harbor City won the special 15-lap Ladies’ Race over Emily Krause of Holmdel and Manchester’s Nancy Hills.

JIMMY BLEWETT WINS JBIII MEMORIAL SATURDAY AT WALL STADIUM

WALL TOWNSHIP, N.J. ~ Veteran Modified stock car driver Jimmy Blewett won perhaps the one race that means the most to his family as he took top honors in the John Blewett III Memorial 76 lap race at Wall Stadium Saturday night. The Howell resident’s win was his fifth in as many appearances at the third mile paved oval and came in the event that honors his late brother who lost his life in a Connecticut racing accident six summers ago.

Chris Hamilton of Oakland and Howell’s Eric Mauriello were stars early in this one as they battled almost constantly for the lead. Soon Blewett arrive in third from his sixth starting spot despite the fact that a few puffs of smoke signaled a braking problem that he would have to deal with the rest of the race.

The second half of the contest saw Hamilton still the pace setter while Mauriello and Blewett would swap second spot on every restart. Then, with just four laps remaining, Blewett dove to the inside lane to take the lead before Hamilton and Mauriello touched and hammered the third turn rail one lap later.

Blewett then drove the final three laps to the win, while Steven Reed and Chas Okerson, both of Freehold, were second and third. Holmdel’s Andrew Krause and Christian LaCicero of Lavallette were fourth and fifth.

“This race always means a lot to our family and it is one race that I always want to win,” Blewett said. “On the track I just gave a couple of guys the same thing they gave me. All in all it was a good race.”

The Sportsman cars ran a 38-lap main event on John Blewett III Memorial Night with Howell’s Kevin Davison taking his first win of the year. Trevor Alspach of Willingboro and Holmdel’s Andrew Krause battled for second most of the way before Alspach got the spot. Kevin Eyres of Colts Neck and Zack Alspach of Willingboro were fourth and fifth.

Steve Michel of Egg Harbor City knifed his way to the lead early and raced on to the win in the 25-lapper for the Factory Stocks. Title contenders Ronnie Mullen of Brick and Scott Riggleman of Manchester were second and third, while Union’s Joey Helberg and Ed Bischoff of Howell were fourth and fifth.

In the final 15 laps of a 25-lap Factory Stock feature held over from the previous week Mullen took the win over Wall’s Tiffany Olejnik, Michel, Helberg and Josh Matthews of Toms River.

Jerry Stanzione of Keansburg raced through the pack and into the lead by the halfway point to win a non-stop 4 Cylinder 25-lap main event. Early leader Mike Wahl of East Islip was second, Wall’s Cole Ormsbee third, Beachwood’s Todd Pilla fourth and Wall’s Brien Crosby wrapped up the top five.

Trevor Alspach of Willingboro won his fifth Legend Cars 25-lapper of the season over Wall’s Robert French, Zack Alspach of Willingboro, Jim Davison of Bridgeville, De. and Steven Woytysiak of Roslyn Heights, N.Y.

This Saturday night (August 24) the speedway celebrates the sport with NASCAR Night festivities. On the speedway the Late Model cars will invade to make up a main event rain postponed earlier this season. The Limited Late Models will also be in the spotlight in a 50-lapper, with the Modifieds, 4 Cylinders and Factory Stocks will also be on the card. A Ladies’ Race is also on the agenda.

CHRIS LANE PERSERVERES TO FIRST WALL MODIFIED WIN

WALL TOWNSHIP, N.J. ~ Rookie Modified stock car driver Chris Lane never gave up!

Despite showing great driving skill and high speed often during this his rookie season, he has also suffered through his share of heartaches. In fact, just a week ago the Howell resident hit the fourth turn guardrail so hard that fans were worried about his well-being the his car’s right side had to be entirely rebuilt.

All that bad fortune turned around for Lane on Saturday night, however, as he fought off some of the best Modified stock car drivers in the business to win the 40-lap main event at Wall Stadium. It was his career first win.

Although Lane started on the front row this race was far from easy. First veteran Adam LaCicero of Lavallette hounded Lane before Freehold’s Steve Reed took repeated stabs at the leader. During the final few laps Howell’s Eric Mauriello taunted Lane to the checker flag. Lane held his ground with Mauriello, Brick’s Shawna Ingraham, LaCicero and Reed wrapping up the top five.

“I’ve dreamed about this ever since I was a little kid in the grandstands,” Lane said of his visit to the winner’s circle. “I’ve had a lot of tough luck this season and a lot of people from family, friends and sponsors have stood behind me. This win is for all of them.”

The Sportsman racers were also on Saturday night’s “First Responders Night” card with twin 25-lap main events. In the first race Brick’s Robert Sutphin fought off Andrew Krause of Holmdel to take his third win of the year. Trevor Alspach of Willingboro, Kevin Eyres of Colts Neck and Manasquan’s Ken Van Wickle completed the top five.

In the second Sportsman 25-lapper Zack Alspach of Willingboro grabbed his first win of the season over Howell’s Kevin Davison, Van Wickle, Trevor Alspach and Krause.

James Meyers of Port Monmouth notched his fourth win this season in the 25-lapper for the 4 Cylinder cars over Jerry Stanzione of Keansburg and Wall’s Cole Ormsbee. Todd Pilla of Beachwood and Wall’s Mike Dorrer were fourth and fifth.

Ken Matlach of New Hyde Park, N.Y. won his third Limited Late Model 25 lapper of the year over Coran N/Y/’s Brian Doyle, Mike Tillett of Bayville, Nick Shaw of Chatham and Jim Downey of Cliffwood Beach.

Brick’s Ronnie Mullen was leading the 25-lap Factory Stock nightcap when Holmdel’s Andrew Krause slammed the first turn rail. Although Krause was not injured, the steel guardrail was so heavily damaged that officials decided to stop the race and finish the final 15-laps this coming Saturday night.

This Saturday night (August 17) the speedway honors one of its fallen heroes with John Blewett III Memorial action. Blewett lost his life in a Connecticut racing accident six summers ago.

On the speedway the Modifieds will headline in a 76-lap main event, while the Sportsman cars, Legend Cars, 4 Cylinders and Factory Stocks will also be on the card. The Garden State Vintage Stock Car Club will also present beautifully restored racecars.

The final 15 laps of the postponed Factory Stock main event and qualifying are slated for 6 p.m. and main event action is set for 7:00 p.m. Grandstand seating opens at 5 p.m.

BLEWETT SWEEPS WALL MODIFIED TWINS

WALL TOWNSHIP, N.J. ~ When Jimmy Blewett enters a Modified stock car event at Wall Stadium he is always at the top of his game. This fact was proven once again on Saturday night as the Howell speedster swept both halves of twin 35 lap main events during Hamer Heating and Cooling Night action.

With speedway management deciding to wait out the showers that dampened the third mile paved oval most of the day, Blewett had to work for both wins as he quickly drove to the front of the pack in both races.

In the first 35-lapper for the Modifieds Blewett used the initial 13 laps to drive to the front before taking the lead from Shaun Carrig of Little Falls after a thrilling three lap side-by-side battle. From then on it was all Blewett although the action was still entertaining as Shawna Ingraham of Brick powered into second in the closing laps. Carrig crossed the finish line third, with Harry Schaeffer of Carteret fourth and Toms River’s Jonathan Mandato fifth.

In the second 35-lapper Chas Okerson of Freehold was the early leader but Blewett was quickly charging to the front. Okerson fought off Blewett before the Howell speedster took command on lap six. Ingraham was again impressive racing into second near the half way point as she then shadowed Blewett to the finish. Mandato was third, while Okerson and Billy Cole wrapped up the top five.

“Again all this comes from a great crew,” Blewett said. “All these guys work real hard on these cars and it shows.”

Former champion Kevin Eyres of Colts Neck raced to his first win of the season in the companion 30-lapper for the Sportsman cars. Eyres raced into the lead on the third lap and then fought off Trevor Alspach of Willingboro before recording his 50th career win. Howell’s Kevin Davison, Kenny Van Wickle of Manasquan and Brick’s Dom Fattaruso were third through fifth.

James Meyers of Port Monmouth was strong from start to finish in winning a non-stop 4 Cylinder 25-lap race. Long Island’s Mike Wahl was second, with Cole Ormsbee of Wall, Beachwood’s Todd Pilla and Roland DeMartino of Beachwood completing the top five.

Trevor Alspach of Willingboro took over the point lead with a win in the 25-lapper for the Legend Cars. Brother Zack Alspach was the runner-up, with Bobby Baltera of Flemington, Jim Davison of Bridgeville, De. and Roger Nickerson finishing third through fifth.

This Saturday night (August 10) the speedway honors First Responders with all those showing proper ID at the grandstand ticket booth admitted free of charge. On the speedway the Modifieds will headline in a 40-lap main event, while the Sportsman cars are also in the spotlight with Twin 25 lap main events.  The Limited Late Models, 4 Cylinders and Factory Stocks will also be on the card.

Qualifying is slated for 6 p.m. and main event action is set for 7:00 p.m. Grandstand seating opens at 5 p.m.

TREVOR ALSPACH IS SPORTSMAN WINNER AT

WALL STADIUM SATURDAY

WALL TOWNSHIP, N.J. ~ Trevor Alspach raced through the pack to grab the lead in the closing circuits at Wall Stadium Saturday night to win the 30-lap Sportsman main event. The Willingboro resident’s win came on “Christmas in July Night” at the third mile high banked paved oval.

Rookie Jason Caruso of Howell led the initial 12 laps before former champ Kevin Eyres of Colts neck took command. Eyres led for the next seven circuits with Zack Alspach of Willingboro right on his bumper. On lap 19 the duo touched in the heat of battle and Eyres slipped up the track allowing Zack Alspach to take the lead.

Zack Alspach was then in the top spot but this one was far from over. His brother Trevor soon moved into contention and then rocketed into the lead on the outside lane with a few laps remaining. At the finish it was Trevor Alspach in for the win followed by Brick’s Robert Sutphin, Andrew Krause of Holmdel and Zack Alspach. When the cars of both Sutphin and Zack Alspach failed post-race inspections, Krause was promoted to second with Manasquan’s Ken Van Wickle, Dom Fattaruso of Brick and Eyres completing the top five.

“I knew that I had to go to the outside if I had a chance of winning,” Trevor Alspach said after the race. “I just drove it real hard to the outside on the restart and hoped that it would stick. It did.”

Mike Dorrer won a race for the hometown fans as he took the top spot in the headline 50-lapper for the 4 Cylinder cars. This race was wild with several competitors in contention for the win. Wall’s Dorrer both led and dropped out of contention in this wild race before recovering for the win. Beachwood’s Todd Pilla, Dan Birdsall of Howell, Al Morales and Jay Conrad wrapped up the top five.

Defending champ Scott Riggleman of Manchester battled with rival Ronnie Mullen of Brick most of the way before winning the 25 lap feature for the Factory Stocks. Riggleman and Mullen touched late in the contest before Mullen dropped to a sixth place finish. Steve Michel of Egg Harbor Twp., Brick’s Joe Mongeau, Andrew Krause of Holmdel and Ed Bischoff of Howell completed the top five.

Ken Matlach of Levittown, N.Y. won his second 20-lapper of the year for the Limited Late Model cars. Brian Doyle of Coram, N.Y., Mike Tillett of Bayville, South Toms River’s Jack Sayegh and Glen Conk of Jackson were second through fifth.

Buddy Sload of West Chester, Pa. won the 25-lapper for the visiting TQ Midgets while Nancy Hills of Manchester won the special 15-lapper for the ladies.

This Saturday night (August 3) the speedway celebrates “Country Western Night.” On the speedway the Modifieds will headline in “Twin 35” lap main events, while the Sportsman cars, 4 Cylinder racers and Legend Cars racers will also see action.  Hamer Heating and Cooling is the sponsor for the twin races.

OKERSON ROCKETS TO WALL STADIUM MODIFIED WIN SATURDAY

WALL TOWNSHIP, N.J. ~ Chas Okerson seemed to be shot out of a cannon early on and maintained that pace for the entire 40-lap distance in winning the main event for Modified stock cars at Wall Stadium Speedway Saturday night. It was the first win of the season for the multi-time championship winning Freehold resident.

When the green flag waved there was a big scramble on the front stretch but Okerson was somehow able to slip through. He then held off the challenges of Lavallette’s Adam LaCicero early before stretching an impressive advantage.

With Okerson leading fans kept an eye on Freehold’s Steven Reed and Howell’s Eric Mauriello as they sliced through the pack toward the front. Bumpers were banging as this duo and others in the field fought for top positions. On the final lap Mauriello spun backwards into the third turn rail. Mauriello was credited with seventh while officials placed Reed to the rear of the field as hey felt he contributed to the spin.

Okerson was chased across the finish line by Holmdel’s Andrew Krause, Chris Hamilton of Oakland, Christian LaCicero of Lavallette and Adam LaCicero.

“The car was working much better tonight than it has all season,” Okerson said. “I got real lucky getting to the front early in the race. After that I just never looked back.”

Andrew Krause of Holmdel won the companion 30-lapper for the Sportsman cars. He battled with Howell’s Kevin Davison for the final third of the race before the duo touched on the final lap and Davison slipped from the top position. Davison was second at the checker flag, while Colts Neck’s Kevin Eyres and Robert Sutphin and Dom Fattaruso, both of Brick, wrapped up the top five.

The Limited Late Models were on the card with two main events. In the first 20-lapper Brian Doyle of Coram, N.Y. was victorious over Ken Matlach of Levittown, N.Y. and Phil Fortuna of Toms River. In the nightcap Matlach took the win after the car of Ray Minieri failed a post race technical inspection. Doyle and Brick’s Ronnie Mullen were second and third.

Steve Michel of Egg Harbor City enjoyed his first ever win in the Factory Stock 25-lap main event with Mullen second and defending champion Scott Riggleman of Manchester third. Nancy Hill later drove Riggleman’s car to victory in a special Ladies’ Race.

Jerry Stanzione of Keansburg crossed the finish line first in the 25-lap race for the 4 Cylinder cars. But when his car failed past race tech the win was awarded to Wall’s Brien Crosby. Mike Dorrer, also of Wall, Mike Wahl of East Islip, N.Y., Jason Meyers of Port Monmouth and Al Morales completed the top five.

This Saturday night (July 20) the speedway celebrates the summer season with “Beach Luau Night.” Fans are encouraged to arrive in their most colorful summer attire and special summer themed food will be offered at the refreshment stands.

On the speedway the 4 Cylinder cars are slated for a 50-lap main event, while the Modifieds, Factory Stocks and Legend Cars racers will also see action. Of special interest will be a 30-lapper for the Limited Late Model cars that will pay $750 to the winner if 10 or more cars enter.

Qualifying is slated for 6 p.m. and main event action is set for 7:00 p.m. Grandstand seating opens at 5 p.m.

MAURIELLO MASTERS WALL STADIUM MODIFIEDS SATURDAY

WALL TOWNSHIP, N.J. ~ Eric Mauriello raced to the front of the field, wrestled his way past a team mate and then raced to his second Modified stock car win of the year at Wall Stadium Saturday night. The Howell resident was last season’s Sportsman division champion and is racing in his first full season in the Modified division.

Shawna Ingraham of Brick was the early leader of the 40 lap test and had every intention of becoming the first female Modified division winner in the speedway’s history. Ingraham stretched an impressive lead early on while Mauriello was charging to the front of the pack and arrived in the runner-up with ten laps down.

A caution then tightened the field and Mauriello then sized up his team mate before finally taking the lead on a lap 24 restart. Mauriello then fought off Oakland’s Chris Hamilton and Freehold’s Steven Reed before taking the win. Reed, Hamilton, Chas Okerson of Freehold and Christian LaCicero if Lavallette wrapped up the top five.

“Those restarts were the key tonight,” Mauriello said. “You have to be spot on in this division because everyone is just so good. Dick and Robert Barney really give me a great car every week. It was very fast tonight.”

Trevor Alspach raced past his brother Zack near the halfway point and then drove on to win his second Sportsman 30-lapper of the season. Following the Willingboro based Alspach brothers across the finish line was Howell’s Kevin Davison, Andrew Krause of Holmdel and Kenny Van Wickle of Manasquan.

After coming close on several occasions Mike Wahl of East Islip, N.Y. won the 25-lap main event for the 4 Cylinder cars. Wall’s Brien Crosby challenged Wahl before settling for second, with Wall’s Cole Ormsbee, Brick’s Randy Hart and James Meyers of Port Republic completing the top five.

Ron Frees of Brick made his first start of the season a great one as he was victorious in the 25-lap main event for the Limited Late Model stock cars. Brian Doyle of Coram, N.Y., Port Monmouth’s Anthony Crimaldi, Ken Matlach of Levittown, N.Y. and Bayville’s Mike Tillett were second through fifth.

Ed Bischoff of Howell led every circuit of the 50-lap Factory Stock feature race but failed a post-race inspection handing the win to Wall’s Tiffany Olejnik, now a two-time winner. Ronnie Mullen of Brick and Scott Riggleman of Manchester were a tight second and third, while Marty Van Druten of Toms River and Jamesburg’s Whitey Miller were fourth and fifth.

This Saturday night (July 13) the speedway celebrates local businesses on “Rt. 34 Night.” Fans will have the chance to meet some of the speedway’s neighboring businesses during the evening’s festivities.

JIMMY BLEWETT WINS WALL STADIUM GARDEN STATE CLASSIC SATURDAY

WALL TOWNSHIP, N.J. ~ Veteran Modified stock car driver Jimmy Blewett and his crew thrashed for days to prepare his team’s No. 5 car for stock car racing at Wall Stadium Saturday night. The Howell based team was rewarded handsomely with a win in the 53rd running of the “Garden State Classic.”

In a car painted to closely resemble the first racer that his late brother John Blewett III ever competed in, Blewett started ninth on the grid and wasted no time in moving to the front. As Howell’s Eric Mauriello led the early going Blewett advanced to second by the ten lap mark and then raced into the lead with an outside lane pass on the 19th circuit.

Blewett then fought off a host of challengers until nearly the entire field pitted for new tires during a lap 83 caution. Blewett returned to the track third behind Mauriello and Freehold’s Steven Reed, but soon duplicated his earlier outside lane pass to take the lead for good.

Blewett then paced the field the rest of the way and was challenged intensely by Pennsylvania driver Zane Zeiner in the closing laps. Mauriello, Reed and defending Classic champion Chas Okerson of Freehold completed the top five.

“I really put my crew through a lot this week,” Blewett said. “They had to work to get this car ready and they worked to put anther car together for a friend. Their work paid off. The car was great!

“I am just so happy to win this as a tribute to my brother. It’s also a neat win because this is my son James’ fifth birthday!”

Second generation driver Dominic Fattaruso of Brick will long remember Garden State Classic weekend 2013 as he raced to his first career win in the companion 30-lapper for the Sportsman cars. Fattaruso raced past Joe Nappi of Howell in the early going and then held off Holmdel’s Andrew Krause and then Willingoboro’s Trevor Alspach to the finish. Alspach, Howell’s Kevin Davison, Joe King of Galloway and Manasquan’s Kenny Van Wickle were second through fifth.

Scott Riggleman of Manchester overcame a work related injury and the warm and humid temperatures to win the Factory Stock 25-lap feature after taking the lead on lap nine. Union’s Joey Helberg was a fast closing second, while Brick’s Ronnie Mullen, early leader Marty Van Druten of Toms River and Steve Michel of Egg Harbor City wrapped up the top five.

Trevor Alspach of Willingboro won the 20-lapper for the Legend Cars dominating the entire event. Brother Zack Alspach was the runner-up, with Robert French of Howell, Rob Hyer of South Amboy and Casey Robicheau of Whiting completing the top five.

This Saturday night (July 6) the speedway celebrates the Independence Holiday Weekend with the Factory Stocks featured in a 50-lap main event. Also on the card will be the Modifieds, Sportsman, Limited Late Models and the 4 Cylinder racers. An On Track Party, where fans can walk the track, see all the racecars up close and collect autographs and gifts, will be presented before the racing begins.

Qualifying is slated for 6 p.m. Grandstand seating opens at 5 p.m.

REED IS FIRST MODIFIED REPEAT WINNER AT WALL STADIUM

WALL TOWNSHIP, N.J. ~ Stock car driver Steven Reed became the first repeat Modified stock car winner of the season Saturday night at Wall Stadium. It was the 16th career win for the Freehold veteran.

Former Street Stock champion John McCormack of Wall jumped to the lead at the outset of the 40-lap lap race while Reed and a host of others charged to the front. Reed arrived in the runner-up spot just before halfway and then shadowed the leader for several circuits.

Headed toward the 30-lap mark Reed drove into the outside lane and raced side-by-side with McCormack. The duo then touched nerf bars on lap 31 with McCormack spinning as a result. Reed then raced on to the victory while Eric Mauriello of Howell, who also raced from deep in the field, finished second. Chas Okerson of Freehold, who contended the entire race, was third, while Christian LaCicero of Lavallette and Oakland’s Chris Hamilton completed the top five.

“I guess we were both just going for the same spot on the track,” Reed said of the contact between his car and McCormack’s. “I feel bad that it happened. John will get his wins because his car is very fast.”

Brick’s Robert Sutphin raced into the lead at the outset and then paced every lap to win the companion 30-lapper for the Sportsman racers.             Fellow Modified rookie Chris Lane of Jackson was impressive as he jumped to the lead at the outset and fought off the challenges of Shaun Carrig of Little Falls, Brick’s Shawna Ingraham and Adam LaCicero of Lavallette through a series of caution flag triggered restarts. All the while, Mauriello was weaving the Dick Barney owned No. 14 through the field.

Mauriello finally moved into contention just past the half way mark of the 40-lap race before taking the lead with 16 laps remaining. He then fought off Toms River’s Jonathan Mandato to the checker flag. Lane, Carrig and LaCicero wrapped up the top five.

“I’ve been waiting a long time for this,” Mauriello said even though he has been racing in the headline division for less than a year. “To drive Dick Barney’s No. 14 is a dream come true. Some of the very best in racing have driven for him over the years.”

The companion 30-lap race for the Sportsman cars was also a thriller with Brick’s Robert Sutphin leading the first 23 circuits. When he slipped from the lead Manasquan’s Kenny Van Wickle took the top spot and crossed the finish line first.

Unfortunately Van Wickle’s car failed a post-race inspection which handed the win to Willingboro’s Trevor Alspach. Former champion Kevin Eyres of Colts Neck, Howell’s Kevin Davison, Zack Alspach of Willingboro and Brick’s Tim Stephan completed the revised top five.

The 4 Cylinder racers battled in twin 25 lap main events with Todd Pilla of Beachwood winning the first over Mike Wall of East Islip, N.Y., James Meyers of Port Monmouth, Al Morales and Brien Crosby. In the nightcap Meyers was the winner over Pilla, Wall, Crosby and Mike Dunn.

Anthony Crimaldi of Port Monmouth won the 20-lap race for the Limited Late Model racers. Ryan Doyle of Ronkonkoma, N.Y., Bayville’s Mike Tillett, Derek Hopkinson of Toms River and Jack Sayegh of South Toms River were second through fifth.

Bob Wagner won the feature race for the Sunday Series Micro Stocks.

Stock car racing continues at Wall Stadium this Saturday night June 8 with five divisions in action on Little League Night. Special events and prizes for Little League Night will also be offered as Little Leaguers in uniform will be admitted free.

While the Legend Cars are slated for twin features, the Modifieds, Sportsman, Factory Stocks and 4 Cylinder racers will also see main event action. The Limited late Models will have the night off.

Pit gates will open at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday; with practice starting at 3:30 p.m. Grandstands will open at 5:00 p.m. and the first qualifying event takes the green flag at 6:00 p.m. Main events are scheduled for 7:00 p.m.

Wall Stadium presents professional motorsports events on most Saturdays and Sundays during the summer months. The speedway is located on Route 34 in Wall Township, N.J., just one mile north of Garden State Parkway exit 98 and Interstate 195 exit 35B.
